President’s Message Fall 2018
Fellow Sunflower HFMA Member,
Fall is upon us and with a new season comes changes and challenges. The Board of Directors has been busy updating our Chapter’s strategic plan and writing a Chapter Success Plan. Chapter Success plans are a new tool to HFMA. Each chapter chooses four areas of focus to set goals, objections, and methods for accomplishment. We chose to focus on Enterprise Membership, Collaboration, Cvent Implementation and Succession Planning.
Our membership recently grew significantly with the addition of members from Cerner, who partnered with HFMA National to implement an Enterprise Membership for their organization and employees. The Board recognizes that this is an opportunity for growth in our chapter and are working to gain an understanding of the needs of these new members.
Our July 2018 meetings met us with our first challenge…the implementation of Cvent! Cvent is an event management system used to track meeting registrations, assist with registration payment, as well as issuing and tracking continuing education hours, including creating reports for the Board to monitor progress. As with any software implementation, there were some bumps along the way, but we were successful! A big “thank you” to the Chapter Program Co-Chairs, Paula Pederson and Emily Emery-Shea for their hard work and dedication, and to Dee Lewis with the Kansas Hospital Association who assisted greatly in this transition. We are successfully utilizing Cvent and look forward to being able to learn more about the system and its functionalities.
An additional challenge we face as a chapter is the resource of human capital. Healthcare leaders are being tasked to do more with less in their day jobs. The outcome has been less hours available to devote to important organizations like Sunflower HFMA. The Board and other chapters in our region are working to develop tools and tactics to make it easier for our chapter volunteers. In an effort to streamline processes, we are pouring through documents and trainings, as well as collaborating with other chapters to determine how we can be the most efficient.
I would like to take a moment to thank our current board of Directors, Officers, and Committee Chairs for the time, effort and passion they put into this great organization. Our Chapter would not be successful without your commitment. Thank you for making Sunflower HFMA a priority in your life.
Danica Case, FHFMA
